The Tryon Festival Theatre houses touring professional productions as well as School of Music Opera Program performances. Used for performances of opera, ballet, modern dance, musicals, plays, and concerts by soloists and small ensembles, it has hosted such companies as the Warsaw Ballet and the Royal Shakespeare Company. The Tryon Festival Theatre can seat up to 979 people in the balcony and main floor, and includes space for wheelchairs. The proscenium arch is 40 feet high, and the stage measures 40 feet wide by 35 feet deep, with 4,200 square feet of backstage space. The theatre has a computerized lighting system, two HMI followspots, and sound reinforcement and recording capability. There are two large chorus dressing rooms, three star dressing rooms, and a green room.
