Tours

It can be tough to picture what two city blocks of entertainment really look like, so show up for a tour to get a better view. In addition to facts and figures about the building, you’ll be treated to performance tidbits and lore handed down from when the building opened in 1969. These free tours, conducted by members of the Krannert Center Student Association and the Krannert Center staff, are typically held every day at 3pm when U of I classes are in session. If you can’t wait or would like a little extra attention, give us a call two weeks in advance (217/333-9716). Because we host more than 300 performances a season, it’s possible that the building simply won’t be accessible for you to see everything, so please try again when we can show you the entire facility.

There’s a constant flux of activities here, so every tour will be slightly different—some might go into the crevices of a theatre and some might reveal a stage decked out for an opera. Tour highlights include detailed information on how the Foellinger Great Hall achieves its world-renowned acoustical properties; an up-close look at the scene, costume, and prop shops; visits to the magnificent rehearsal spaces; and peeks into the crannies backstage.

Here’s the schedule for upcoming tours:
