Drama Rehearsal Room (Level 2)
In an ongoing collaboration, the Mark Morris Dance Group has worked with the Brooklyn Parkinson Group to blend music and dance into an empowering movement class for patients with Parkinson’s disease. Recognizing that dance—with its integrated stretching of mind, body, and soul—can effectively concentrate a person’s focus, David Leventhal, John Heginbotham, and Misty Owen combined elements of modern dance, ballet, tap, jazz, social dancing, and the company’s original works into a method for patients to use touch, sight, sound, thought, and imagination to control their movements.
Trained in this innovative technique, Marianne Jarvi and Kate Kuper of Dance at Illinois will lead patients, caregivers, and friends through an exploration of dance movements that stretch and strengthen muscles, impart balance, and interject rhythm with the energizing force of live music from Beverly Hillmer.
The Unity Parkinson’s Disease Support Group, Carle Clinic, Dance at Illinois, and Krannert Center join the Mark Morris Dance Group in this enriching and inviting project.
The Drama Rehearsal Room can be reached most directly from the Yellow and Orange parking lots (off Illinois Street). Please note:
