Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis
WYNTON MARSALIS, ARTISTIC AND MUSICAL DIRECTOR

Saturday, September 27, 2014, at 7:30pm | Foellinger Great Hall

Soul that glides, blues music that smokes, and Dixieland jams that positively pop have earned this troupe of jazz practitioners kudos as “the finest big band in the world today” (Daily Telegraph, United Kingdom). At the helm and behind the trumpet is Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis, a Pulitzer Prize, Peabody Award, and nine-time Grammy Award winner. Marsalis’ dedication to Jazz at Lincoln Center’s mission along with his own swinging virtuosity, dramatic flourishes, and “razor clarity” have taken this onetime jazz wunderkind to big-time success as a band leader, composer, and tireless arts advocate and have earned him a spot in jazz and American history (The New York Times).

This concert will feature charts by Chick Corea and Charles Mingus as well as works composed or arranged by members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

This performance will last approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes and has no intermission.
